Quality Use of Medicines
National Prescribing Service

NPS Facilitator: Rashika Ekeanyanwu

Quality Prescribing Initiative (QPI) Activities 1 May 2011-30 April 2012

The Quality Prescribing Initiative (QPI) as part of the Practice Incentives Program (PIP) rewards general practices that participate in a range of quality use of medicines activities provided by the NPS.

How many NPS activities does the practice need to complete to qualify for PIP payment?
At least three activities per full time equivalent (FTE) GP per PIP year. At least one of the three activities must be a clinical audit. Other activities can be an NPS case study and/or educational visit and/or participation in NPS small group meetings.

What this means for the practice:
An annual payment of $1 per Standardised Whole Patient Equivalent will be made to registered practices (i.e. annual payment of approximately $1,000 per FTE GP) that complete the required number of QPI activities recognised by the NPS. The number of activities your practice needs to complete for the new QPI-PIP period will be shown on the PIP payment statement from the HIC (enquiry line 1800 222 032).

Other benefits of the NPS activities include eligibility for RACGP and ACRRM QA&CPD points.

If you would like a Small Group Case Study to be held in your region, or for further information about the NPS program please contact Rashika Ekeanyanwu or via the Murray-Plains Division office on 03 5481 1300.

National Prescribing Service offers two topics per year through Small Group Case Study Meetings across the Murray-Plains Division.

For information on meeting dates and locations, please contact Rashika Ekeanyanwu or  Daria Atkinson at Murray-Plains.
