Murray Plains Division of General Practice is a QICSA Accredited organisation.

Pen Clinical Audit & Practice Health Atlas

A major focus of the activities of the Practice Capacity Team this year has been the introduction of ABHI (Australian Better health Initiative).  Broadly, ABHI has provided a vehicle for Division staff to facilitate improvement of:

  • quality of data held in General Practice patient databases
  • uptake and utilisation of General Practice Nurses
  • implementation of GP Management Plans (GPMP) and Team Care Arrangements (TCA)
other MBS items in the management of chronic disease

The PEN Clinical Audit tool (PCAT) and Practice Health Atlas (PHA) are clinical information systems which support quality improvement in information management and enhance the business capability of General Practice.  They are the main tools being used to assist in meeting the above aims.

The Division hoped that by the end of November 2008, we would have 8 practices engaged with PCAT and one with PHA.  In fact we now have 13 practices using PCAT (one of these is in a trial testing Best Practice software and the PCAT extraction tool) and two are engaged with PHA.

Three of our Division staff have been trained in the use and implementation of Practice Health Atlas.

Work continues with the 3 Primary Care Partnerships that are part of the Murray-Plains Division of General Practice - Campaspe PCP, Bendigo-Loddon PCP and Southern Mallee PCP.
